Cards on the table: I'm full segregation and here's why ...
I went to a School called Exhall Grange and whil there, I was able to excell among my peers in many areas just because we all (as the school was then) had a visual impairment.
This meant that we all went up and stood by the blackboard to see the maths being done, we all squinnied over our books, we all kicked the air thinking the ball must be somewhere nearby - and we all liked to mess around in physics (not strictly relevant that last one).
Prior to Exhall, I went to an integrated primary school where I spent some time in a "Unit" for support. It was a waste of time (not because of the excellent teachers). I wasn't chosen for any teams, I was always behind, I was "odd" and I was in danger of growing up with the perception and feeling that I was less able than others.
I don't think the experience at Exhall is worth sacrificing for the benefit of "educating" the rest of society and I definitely don't think that the confidence I gained while at Exhall meant that I wouldn't be able to cope when I got into the "real" world - cos I did and I can. Exhall *was* the real world - only most of us there couldn't see too well.
So, that's me.... what about you?
